Announcements & Notifications

Announcements are how your league keeps everyone on the same page — schedule changes, rainouts, event reminders, and league news.

This page covers where announcements appear, how pinned posts reach you, and how to turn push alerts on or off.

Viewing league announcements

Open your league and go to the Announcements tab to see every post, newest first.

Announcements your league has pinned appear at the top of the list and stay there until the league manager unpins them. Pinning is how Commissioners and Secretaries mark something as important — a rainout, a tee-time change, a playoff date.

Unread announcements are highlighted, and the league's Announcements tab shows an unread indicator so you can tell at a glance whether there's something new.

Only Commissioners and Secretaries can post, edit, pin, or delete announcements. Every other member reads them.

What happens when a post is pinned

Pinning is the trigger for outbound notifications. A normal (unpinned) announcement never emails or pushes — it just appears in the league feed.

When a Commissioner or Secretary pins an announcement, Golf League HQ can do three things:

1. Show it at the top of the league's Announcements tab.
2. Send a push notification to every member who has opted in on a device.
3. Send an email to league members.

Push notification opt-in

Push alerts are strictly opt-in and per device. Nothing is sent until you turn them on.

To enable them:

1. Open Settings from your profile.
2. Find the Push notifications card.
3. Turn the toggle on.

Turning the toggle on asks your browser for notification permission and then registers this device to receive pinned-announcement alerts. Permission has to come from a tap, which is why it's a toggle rather than something that happens automatically when the app loads.

Turning the toggle off unsubscribes that device. Other devices you've enabled keep working — enable or disable each one separately.

If you previously blocked notifications for the site, the toggle can't re-ask. Re-allow notifications for Golf League HQ in your browser's site settings, then try again.

iPhone and iPad: add to Home Screen first

On iOS and iPadOS, push notifications only work for apps installed to the Home Screen. In a normal Safari tab the toggle will refuse with a prompt to install first.

To set it up:

1. Open Golf League HQ in Safari.
2. Tap the Share button.
3. Choose Add to Home Screen.
4. Open Golf League HQ from the new Home Screen icon.
5. Go to Settings and turn on the Push notifications toggle.

Android and desktop Chrome or Edge can enable push in the browser, though installing the app gives you the icon badge too.

App icon badges

When Golf League HQ is installed (Home Screen on iOS, or installed as an app on Android and desktop), the app icon can show a small count badge for unread announcements.

Notes on badges:

• Badges require the installed app. In a plain browser tab they do nothing.
• On iPhone and iPad, badges also require notification permission — the same opt-in described above.
• The badge clears once you've read the outstanding announcements.

Announcement emails

Pinned announcements can also arrive by email, sent from notifications@golfleaguehq.app.

Email delivery depends on your league's settings, not on your device. Each league has a Pinned announcement email toggle in League Settings → Email notifications. It's on by default; a Commissioner can turn it off if the league would rather rely on push and the in-app feed.

If you're getting announcement emails you don't want, ask your Commissioner to turn that league's toggle off — it's a per-league setting, so it affects everyone in that league.

Tips & Best Practices

• Enable push on the phone you actually carry to the course. That's where rainout notices matter.
• Install the app to your Home Screen if you want both alerts and icon badges.
• Check the Announcements tab before league night even with alerts on — it's the complete record.

Common Questions

Why didn't I get a notification for a new announcement?

Only pinned announcements notify. If the post wasn't pinned, it appears in the feed silently.

Can I get push alerts on more than one device?

Yes. Turn the toggle on from each device — subscriptions are per device.

I'm on an iPhone and the toggle won't turn on.

Add Golf League HQ to your Home Screen and turn the toggle on from the installed app. Safari tabs can't subscribe on iOS.

Can I turn off just the emails and keep push?

Announcement email is a league-level setting controlled by your Commissioner, while push is per device and controlled by you. Turn your push toggle off to stop alerts; ask your Commissioner about league emails.
