League Settings
Configure scoring, handicaps, approvals, dues, notifications, and other league-wide settings.
League Settings
League Settings control how Golf League HQ operates for your league.
This is where commissioners manage many of the league-wide defaults and rules used throughout the season.
Overview
The commissioner Settings area includes controls for areas such as:
- League name
- Description
- Scoring format
- Handicap allowance
- Hole count
- Join code
- Public/private visibility
- Opponent approval
- Rainout behavior
- Dues
- Scramble percentages
- Nicknames
- Email notifications
- Feedback
- Announcements
- Handicap-system configuration
League Settings are commissioner-controlled.
Before You Begin
Review these settings before the season starts.
Some settings affect how rounds are scored or how league operations behave, so changing them mid-season can create confusion for players.
League Basics
Name
Update the league name when needed.
Use a name that is clear to players and consistent across seasons.
Description
Use the description to identify the league or explain its purpose.
Scoring Format
The Settings screen allows you to manage supported scoring formats.
Handicap Allowance
Set the percentage of the player's handicap used for league scoring.
The value is used in handicap-adjusted scoring.
Holes
Set the league's normal hole count.
Individual rounds can also have round-specific configuration.
Join Code
The league has a shared join code used by players joining the league.
Commissioners can manage the join code from League Settings.
Use it as the primary invitation code for league membership.
Public or Private
Control whether the league is public or private.
A public league is intended to be discoverable.
Use the privacy setting that matches how your league recruits and manages players.
Opponent Score Approval
Golf League HQ can require opponent approval as part of score verification.
When enabled, a player's verified card moves into the opponent-approval workflow before the scoring process is complete.
Review this setting before league play begins so players understand the expected verification process.
Rainout Shift Policy
League Settings include rainout-related behavior for scheduled rounds.
The commissioner Round tools also provide a rainout action that can shift later rounds.
See Rounds and Seasons & Schedule for the operational workflow.
Dues Settings
Commissioners can configure league dues information such as:
- Amount
- Description
- Due date
- Fee mode
Golf League HQ currently tracks the dues workflow but does not function as an integrated online dues-payment processor.
Players can mark dues activity, and commissioners can confirm or waive applicable dues records.
Scramble Percentages
For scramble formats, Golf League HQ includes low- and high-handicap percentage settings.
These percentages can be used in team handicap calculations.
Review them before generating or scoring scramble teams.
Nicknames
League Settings can control nickname-related behavior where supported by the league experience.
Use this according to the culture and naming conventions of your league.
Email & Notification Settings
Commissioners can configure league email behavior for supported events.
Per-league email toggles:
- Round created — notify members when a new round is scheduled
- Pairings posted — tell each player their group and tee time
- Dues reminders — allow sending dues reminders to unpaid members
- Score finalized — send the leaderboard and winner when a round completes
- Pinned announcement — email members when an announcement is pinned
The section also includes a Send test email action and a Send dues reminder now action.
Printed Scorecard Layout (18-hole rounds)
Controls which printed layout Print Scorecards uses for 18-hole rounds:
- Option A — 2-up landscape
- Option D — 2-up portrait
9-hole rounds always use the 4-up landscape layout and ignore this setting.
See Pairings & Tee Sheets for the printing workflow.
Feedback
League Settings include controls related to post-round feedback.
When enabled, players may see the quick feedback experience after score verification.
Announcements
Announcement-related settings control how league communication behaves.
Pinned announcements can trigger player notifications when the applicable league and platform notification settings are enabled.
See Announcements & Notifications for the full commissioner workflow.
Handicap Settings
Golf League HQ includes a dedicated handicap-settings area.
Commissioners can configure:
- Handicap system
- Rounds window
- Rounds used
- Multiplier
- Maximum handicap values
- Whether sub rounds are included
- Whether tournament rounds are included
- Ghost handicap behavior
- Automatic partial-round behavior
The currently implemented handicap systems include:
- USGA pre-2020 style
- World Handicap configuration
- Custom configuration
For the exact implemented calculation behavior, see Handicaps.
Senior Tees
There is no league-wide Senior Tee switch.
Senior Tee eligibility is handled at the player level.
A player's date of birth and approval status are managed through the roster/player workflow.
Preferred Tee
Preferred Tee is also a player-profile field.
It is not configured from League Settings.
Players can have a Preferred Tee stored in their profile, and Golf League HQ can use it when the course has a matching tee.
Tips & Best Practices
Review settings before the season
Treat League Settings as part of preseason setup.
Avoid unnecessary mid-season scoring changes
Changes to format, allowance, or handicap settings can make historical and future rounds harder for players to compare.
Document your league's rules separately
Golf League HQ provides the operational settings, but commissioners should still communicate league-specific rules clearly to players.
Common Questions
Where do I configure Senior Tees?
Senior Tee eligibility is handled per player from the roster/player-management workflow.
Where do I configure Preferred Tee?
Preferred Tee is stored on the player's profile, not as a league-wide setting.
Can a secretary edit League Settings?
The primary League Settings interface is commissioner-only.
Does Golf League HQ collect league dues online?
The current dues system tracks dues and confirmation states, but settlement is handled outside an integrated online dues-payment flow.
Can I change the join code?
League Settings include join-code management.
Should I change handicap settings after the season begins?
Only when necessary and with clear communication to your players, since handicap settings affect league scoring behavior.
