Commissioner FAQ

Quick answers to common questions that come up while running a league.

Use ⌘K search anywhere in the Help Center to jump directly to a question.

League Setup

Where should I start when creating a league?

Create the league, review League Settings, create the season, build the roster, create teams, and then build the schedule and pairings.

Does every golfer receive a unique join code?

No. The league uses one shared join code.

Can a Secretary edit League Settings?

Secretaries can view League Settings, but only commissioners can edit them.

Can I change every scoring format after creating the league?

The creation flow currently exposes a broader set of scoring-format choices than the Settings editor. Choose the initial format carefully.

Seasons

Which season setup should I use?

Use the Season Setup Wizard when you want Golf League HQ to generate the schedule from your season structure.

Can running the Season Setup Wizard twice create duplicate rounds?

Yes. Review the existing schedule before generating another set.

What happens when I make another season active?

Golf League HQ completes the previously active season as part of the transition.

Do teams automatically carry into a new season?

No automatic season carryover workflow currently recreates the prior season's teams and standings.

Players & Roles

Can a Secretary edit player handicaps?

Yes.

Can a Secretary approve Senior Tee eligibility?

Yes.

Is Senior Tee a league-wide setting?

No. Senior Tee eligibility is approved per player.

Where is Preferred Tee configured?

Preferred Tee is stored on the player's profile.

Why does a brand-new golfer show a 0.0 handicap?

The current calculated handicap for a player with no qualifying rounds is 0.0.

Review new-player handicaps before using them for team generation or competition.

Teams

Can a Secretary create or edit teams?

Yes. Secretaries can edit existing teams — team handicap overrides, starting holes, and swapping the A/B players. Generating, manually adding, deleting teams, and flight assignment remain commissioner-only.

What happens if I generate teams again?

Automatic generation replaces the existing season teams.

Can I manually create teams?

Yes.

Can I override a team handicap?

Yes. Manual team handicaps are supported.

Rounds

Can a Secretary create or edit rounds?

Yes.

Does setting Conditions to Cancelled actually cancel the round?

No. Conditions are informational. Use the round cancellation action to change the actual round status.

Can I restore a cancelled round?

Yes.

Does completing a round confirm all scorecards are complete?

No. Review scorecards before moving the round to Completed.

Can I use different scoring for one round?

Yes. A round can override the league's normal scoring format.

Pairings

Does Publish Pairings make the pairings visible to players?

Do not rely on Publish as the visibility boundary. Players may be able to see pairing information before the Publish action.

Use Publish as the workflow and notification step.

Does assigning a substitute automatically change the pairing?

No.

After assigning the substitute, open Pairings and confirm the correct golfer is in the group.

Can I edit pairings after scoring starts?

The controls remain available. Avoid major pairing changes after scoring begins unless necessary.

Can Golf League HQ automatically create pairings?

Yes. Review the generated groups before relying on the final tee sheet.

Substitutes

Can players accept or decline a substitute assignment?

The current player-facing experience does not provide a complete accept/decline workflow.

Can a Secretary assign substitutes?

Yes.

What should I do immediately after assigning a substitute?

Open the round pairing and confirm the golfer has been placed into the correct group.

What is a designated substitute?

A designated substitute is identified on the roster for substitute use. Round-specific assignment and pairing management are still required.

Scoring

Can a Secretary edit scores?

Yes.

Can a Secretary unlock a verified scorecard?

No. The current scorecard unlock control is commissioner-only.

What happens when I unlock a scorecard?

The current verification and approval state is reset so the card can be edited and verified again.

Can a round be completed with incomplete scorecards?

The completion action does not automatically validate score completeness. Check the cards first.

What if a golfer scored while offline?

Scores can be queued and synchronized after connectivity returns.

Review the round if expected scoring or handicap information still appears incomplete after synchronization.

Results & Standings

Do standings update automatically after a round?

No.

Use Recalculate after the applicable round results are ready.

Does completing a round recalculate standings?

No.

When should I recalculate standings?

After the official results are settled and whenever a correction changes qualifying results.

Are skins permanently locked after a round?

The current skins workflow does not provide a separate permanent finalization lock.

Resolve score issues before treating skins payouts as final.

What's the difference between Live Leaderboard and Standings?

The Live Leaderboard follows the current round. Standings represent cumulative league competition and require recalculation.

Handicaps

Does Golf League HQ sync with GHIN?

No active GHIN synchronization is currently implemented.

Does Golf League HQ use the current USGA 9-hole method?

No. The current 9-hole calculation uses a simplified par-36 baseline.

Can I freeze a player's handicap?

Yes. Season-specific handicap freezes are supported.

Why might a handicap fail to update?

Check:

  • Course rating
  • Slope
  • Round eligibility
  • Handicap freeze
  • Manual override
  • Whether scoring occurred through the offline synchronization path

Do Senior Tees use a different handicap formula?

No. Their effect comes from the tee's course data.

Dues & Wallet

Does Golf League HQ process dues payments?

The current dues workflow tracks payment status. Actual payment settlement occurs outside the integrated dues workflow.

What's the difference between reported and confirmed payment?

A player can report that payment was made. Commissioner confirmation indicates that the league has verified it.

Is the Wallet a bank account?

No. Treat it as a league ledger.

Can a Secretary create wallet transactions?

Yes. Secretaries have access to the Wallets tab and can record payments, payouts, and manual credits or debits.

Courses

Can I import a course?

Yes. Golf League HQ supports course search and import.

Can I scan a scorecard?

Authorized course managers can use the scorecard-photo scanning workflow.

Why are handicap strokes missing from a scorecard?

Check the selected tee's stroke-index information.

Why isn't a round differential available?

Check the applicable course rating and slope.

Announcements

Can a Secretary post announcements?

Yes.

Can I see which players read an announcement?

The current experience does not provide a reliable per-player read receipt.

Does pinning an announcement send email?

It can when the applicable league and platform email settings are enabled.

Commissioner Troubleshooting

The standings still show last week's results. What should I check?

Open Standings and run Recalculate after confirming the latest round results are ready.

I assigned a substitute, but they aren't in the tee sheet. Why?

Substitute assignment does not automatically update the pairing.

Open Pairings and add or confirm the substitute in the appropriate group.

A player verified the wrong score. What do I do?

A commissioner can unlock the scorecard, correct the scoring issue, and have the card complete verification again.

A golfer's handicap looks wrong after offline scoring. What should I check?

Confirm the scores synchronized, then review the player's handicap state and applicable round/course information.

Players can see pairings before I published them. Is that expected?

The current Publish Pairings action is not the technical visibility boundary. Treat it as the notification/workflow step.

A round says Conditions: Cancelled, but it still appears active. Why?

The Conditions label is informational. Use the actual round cancellation action to change round status.

I corrected course data, but an old round still shows the previous rating or slope. Why?

Existing rounds retain the rating and slope values saved on the round when it was configured.
