Commissioner Guide
Create Your League
Create a new Golf League HQ league and complete the initial commissioner setup.
Create Your League
Creating a league establishes the foundation for everything that follows: players, seasons, rounds, pairings, scoring, standings, and dues.
Golf League HQ creates you as the league's commissioner when the league is created.
Overview
From the Leagues area, commissioners can create a new league and define its initial configuration.
The creation flow includes information such as:
- League name
- Description
- Scoring format
- Handicap allowance
- Number of holes
- Season type
- Public/private visibility
- Join code
After creation, Golf League HQ adds the creator to the league as the commissioner.
Before You Begin
Have the basics of your league decided before you start:
- League name
- General format
- Typical number of holes
- Handicap allowance
- Whether the league should be public or private
You can adjust many league settings later, but starting with the right structure makes setup easier.
Create the League
1. Open Leagues
Navigate to the Leagues area.
If your account has league-management access, you'll see the option to create a league.
2. Select Create
Open the league-creation form.
3. Enter the league name
Choose the name your golfers will recognize.
Use a clear, stable league name rather than a temporary season-specific label unless that's how your organization operates.
4. Add a description
Enter a short description of the league.
This helps distinguish the league from others in the organization.
5. Choose the scoring format
Select the league's starting scoring format.
The league-creation experience supports multiple scoring formats.
6. Set the handicap allowance
Choose the handicap allowance used by the league.
This value is stored as a percentage and can be adjusted later in League Settings.
7. Choose the number of holes
Set the league's typical hole count.
This becomes part of the league's starting configuration and can also serve as a default for later round setup.
8. Choose Public or Private
Select whether the league should be public or private.
Public leagues are discoverable.
Private leagues are not intended for public discovery.
9. Complete creation
Create the league.
Golf League HQ adds your membership with the role:
- Commissioner
You can then continue through the league setup flow.
Initial Setup Wizard
After creating a league, Golf League HQ provides a setup workflow that can guide you through:
- Reviewing league basics
- Adding the first round
- Sharing the league join code
- Completing onboarding
The setup wizard is useful for getting a basic league operational quickly.
For a more complete season structure, continue into Seasons & Schedule.
Invite Players With the Join Code
Each league has a shared join code.
Players can use that code to connect their Golf League HQ account to the league.
The league does not generate a unique join code for each individual player.
Free-Tier League Limits
Depending on the Golf League HQ plan and organization configuration, limits may apply to how many leagues a commissioner can create.
If the interface prevents another league from being created, review the plan or organization options shown in Golf League HQ.
After Creating the League
Once the league exists, the next steps are usually:
- Review League Settings
- Create the active season
- Add players
- Configure teams or flights
- Build the round schedule
Avoid jumping directly into pairings before the player, team, and season structure is ready.
Common Questions
Who becomes commissioner when I create the league?
The person creating the league is added to the league with the Commissioner role.
Does every player get a unique invite code?
No. The league uses a shared join code.
Can I change league settings later?
Yes. Many league settings can be changed from the commissioner-only Settings area.
Can I change every scoring format later?
Not necessarily. The creation form currently exposes a broader list of formats than the Settings editor, so choose the initial format carefully.
Should I create rounds before creating a season?
For a structured league season, create the season first and use the season tools to build the schedule.
